Popis: One of the great achievements of the past half-century in most parts of the British Commonwealth, the Scandinavian nations, and the United States is the improved health status of our people. It has been estimated from fossil findings that in prehistoric times the average man lived to about 18 years, his life usually terminating in violent death. This had advanced to around 25 years during the time of the ancient Romans. In Australia by the turn of the century the average man lived to around 51 years and the average woman to around 55 years. By 1948 this had reached around 66 for men and 71 for women.
