Popis: Renaissance, perhaps then we might feel more hopeful about our future. What I propose is to draw out the parallels between then and now, to see if we are justified in seeing ourselves as part of a “New Renaissance”. If the account that follows at times seems unsettling, then we must accept that radical change whether it be ‘old’ or ‘new’ is indeed an uncomfortable process to experience. However, such realism should not make us any the less hopeful. We do indeed live in extraordinary times, but if we see ourselves as part of a cultural transformation equal to one of the greatest flourishings of endeavour and creativity in the history of civilisation, then perhaps that should be as much cause for hope as concern.
