Popis: | The effects of genes on life-span have been studied further by using the wmf triple mutant of X-chromosome of D. melanogaster through three generations. The mean life spans of parental Oregon w.t. and wmf populations were found to be 63·77 and 32·92 days, respectively, as sex-combined. However, the overall mean longevity of the F1 groups (78·24) was very much extended in comparison with that of the triple mutant parents (137%) and w.t. parents (22%). Although all expressed some kind of mutant phenotypes, the overall mean duration of life for the F2 populations studied was 63·08 days, which was 30·49% extended in comparison with that of the parents, and 20% shortened as compared with the F1 offspring, suggesting that hybrid vigour is not lost in the F2. No consistent sex difference was obtained for the pertinent sexes of the F2 groups. |
