Popis: Edward Shortliffe's often-cited definition describes medical informatics (MI) as: The rapidly developing scientific field that deals with the storage, retrieval, and optimal use of biomedical information, data, and knowledge for problem solving and decision making. It accordingly touches on all basic and applied fields in biomedical science and is closely tied to modern information technologies, notably in the areas of computing and communications. [1] This definition provided the context for a survey of medical informatics course, a two-week online elective for medical students. Technology provided the means to deliver course content as instructors took full advantage of evolving courseware, multimedia production tools, and web applications.
