Popis: A case of lumbosacral extradural myxopapillary ependymoma is reported. The clinical, embryologic, and therapeutic features of this rare lesion are presented. The unusual entity is discussed in the light of previous experience with extradural ependymoma in the lumbosacral region. Cancer 64:1156-1159, 1989. PENDYMOMAS are the most common tumors of glial E origin in the spinal cord, comprising approximately 15% of all spinal canal tumors and approximately 60% of all spinal cord gliomas.' The great majority are intradural lesions involving the cauda equina or other intramedullary sites of the spinal cord. The cauda equina location is the most common, and ependymomas at this site constitute close to 90% of the primary tumors that arise in this area.2 Ependymal cells may be found within the coccygeal ligament and in other heterotopic positions and can give rise to tumors in extradural location^.^ We report on the clinical and pathologic findings of a patient with extradural ependymoma who was operated on and subsequently irradiated, with full recuperation of the neurologic deficit.
