Popis: | T H E R E are few reports of blood pressure determinations in infants with coarctation of the aorta 1-7 because of the obvious difficulty in using the conventional anscultatory or palpatory techniques for blood pressure measurements in infancy. The " f lush" technique described by one of us 2 has been found to be an easy, reliable procedure for routine blood pressure measurements in infants and has been used for the past four years on the wards at the St. Louis Children's Hospital. This technique has been especially helpful as a screening procedure in suspected cases of coarctation of the aorta. Since such infants are usually desperately ill upon admittance to the hospital, minimal diagnostic procedures can be done. Repeated attempts at auscu]tatory and palpatory blood pressure determinations are usually unsuccessful, but the application of the simple " f lush" technique is easily accomplished. We thought it would be of interest to report the blood pressure findings and other observations in fourteen infants with coarctation of the aorta demonstrated at autopsy. The diagnosis was made ante mortem in all except two cases, and the |
