Popis: Since movements are generated as voluntary or involuntary actions, differentiation of the cause is crucial to provide the appropriate interventions. Distinguishing voluntary movements (deliberate expressions of emotion and fabricated movements) from involuntary movements (neurological disease and functional neurological symptom disorder) is needed in children who may be unable to provide the data necessary for an accurate diagnosis. Functional neurological symptom disorder (conversion disorder) can be precipitated by environmental influences including emotional, physical, and sexual abuse (Brasic, 2002). Children may develop subtypes of conversion disorder similar to parents (Brasic, 2002).
