Popis: | The hypothesis that a womans concept about her body functions may i nitiate rejection of certain Fertility Regulating Methods (FRM) specifi cally of oral contraceptives (OCs) and IUDs which modify bodily function s motivated an investigation among 5 ethnic populations (Bahamians Cub ans Haitians Puerto Ricans and Southern American Blacks). The most pr onounced theme among the groups was dissatisfaction with those methods w hich modify menstruation. Ethnically patterned responses showed that an important relationship existed between rejection of those FRMs which mod ify menstrual bleeding and the various concepts of blood. Irregularity of menstrual processes was viewed among all groups as a threat to health and well-being. This investigation suggests that womens concepts of bo dily functions are among the major factors influencing their decisions c oncerning choice use of nonuse of orthodox FRMs. |
