Popis: Senecio madagascariensis and S. vulgaris plants were observed to be parasitized by a rust disease in the Cundinamarca department of Colombia in April 2019. The identification of the fungus growing on the hosts was conducted by morphological characterization of the spores on the host tissues, and molecular sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region. The fungal pathogen was identified as Puccinia lagenophorae. This is the first record of P. lagenophorae causing disease in Colombia, and the first report of this rust fungus parasitizing S. madagascariensis and S. vulgaris in South America.
