Popis: | Individual pulmonary acini were opacified by blocking the corresponding terminal bronchioles of the lung with nylon particles and injecting a mixture of barium sulfate and gelatin into the bronchial tree. Radiographs of individual acini showed a characteristic rosette appearance with an elliptical overall configuration. Anatomical correlation was done by rendering the lung tissue transparent by a clearing process and examining it under a dissecting microscope. Various features of air-space consolidation seen on chest radiographs can be explained by considering the pulmonary acinus as the basic roentgen unit. |
