Summary A 3D seismic data set has been acquired at the Blotberget iron-oxide mining site of the Bergslagen mineral province in central Sweden. A 3D focusing seismic imaging technique accompanied by 3D first-arrival traveltime tomography to obtain a P-wave velocity model of the shallow subsurface have been applied to the 3D data set after basic pre-processing. As a result, a high-quality 3D seismic cube with several dominant structural features has been obtained in depth. One distinct reflector can be related to the southeast dipping mineralisation and a major conjugate reflector with opposite dip crosscuts this mineralisation reflector at greater depth. Our findings verify earlier studies based on 2D seismic profiles in that area and, beside a significantly improved data quality, now also provide 3D structural information about the true spatial dips of the imaged structures. The high-resolution 3D seismic cube serves as a good basis for building a 3D model of the deposit and its internal architecture including future prospectivity modelling to estimate its economic potential. |
