This paper presents a completely passive system fordetection and localization of small aircraft and UAVs. The systemmakes use of the fact that almost any such target emits somekind of RF emission, either by active transmissions or by passivereflection of other sources. Active transmissions can for examplebe caused by telemetry or video downlinks to a remote control orsome kind of unintended emission like a mobile phone carried bya passenger. These transmissions can be identified by means ofpassive detection. At the same time, passive reflections of signalsradiated by illuminators of opportunity like FM radio stationscan be used to build a multistatic passive radar. |
