This thesis examines the multidimensional nature of sexuality and its management after traumatic brain injury (TBI). The findings provide insight into how factors interact to influence sexual function and wellbeing after TBI, problematic barriers and factors that may improve sexuality service delivery in rehabilitation from the perspectives of practitioners, and treatment of persistent post-TBI sexuality problems. Specifically, we developed a world-first cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) sexuality intervention and, in nine adults with TBI, found preliminary evidence of efficacy and feasibility. It is hoped that this evidence and knowledge can help support survivors and clinicians to optimise sexuality outcomes after TBI. |
