This paper provides information about the diplomatic relations between the Republic of Ragusa and some important Albanian noble families in the middle Ages. The paper aims to introduce the most important diplomas and agreements that these families have made with the state of Ragusa. The agreements are mostly of economic nature and are mainly related to the commercial activity of the merchants of Ragusa in the Albanian territories. The families whose relationships are treated in this paper are the Castriotis, the Aranites, the Topias, the Ducaghines, the Balsha, the princes of Arbanum, and etc., so the most important Albanian nobility during the Middle Ages. The paper is mainly based on archival documents of the State Archive of Dubrovnik. |
