Popis: | In response to degenerative changes (tissue disorganization) in articular cartilage, chondrocytes synthesize proteoglycans which differ in several aspects from those found in healthy cartilage [1]. The main object of this study was to investigate the effects of the severity of tissue disorganization on the nature of the newly synthezised proteoglycans. The proteoglycans synthesized by chondrocytes in explant cultures, high density (pellet) and monolayer cultures are compared. The study is focussed on the degree of sulphation and the position of sulphate in chondroitin sulphate chains ofproteoglycans synthesized in vitro. |
