Popis: In response to the 2020 pandemic and lockdown, a group of PhD students proposed that it would be useful to be able to use the lockdown to complete the required credits for the integrated programme with business studies. At a similar time, Canon Medical had approached OPTIMA interested in working collaboratively with students. Very quickly, a proposal was put together for a SLICC (student-led individually created course) which would gain students necessary credits for the integrated masters and give the chance to work collaboratively with Canon Medical as an industrial partner. The students’ learning experiences were transformative in nature, individually and collectively and the SLICC mechanism combined with the Researcher Development Framework empowered the students to recognise their own experiential learning with respect to developing as a researcher. Our work shows that the SLICC format can be flexible and agile, providing a fully online mode of learning with external partners. It could be adapted to look at evaluating work placements, capstone projects and students’ consultancy projects in many other settings.
