Popis: | Native ribosomal subunits separated by sucrose gradient centrifugation are able to associate. The particles so formed sediment between 59 s and 63 s (designated 61 s ribosomes). In contrast, derived subunits associate to form 70 s ribosomes. The 50 s subunit appears to determine the sedimentation velocity of the association products. Washing the native subunits with 1 m -NH 4 Cl neither alters their ability to associate nor the sedimentation coefficient of the association product. On the other hand, washing of derived subunits leads to formation of 61 s ribosomes. Again, the 50 s particles determine the S -value of the association product. All four possible combinations of native and derived subunits are able to participate in bacteriophage RNA-directed polypeptide synthesis. Neither native nor derived subparticles contain uncharged transfer RNA or aminoacyl-transfer RNA. |
