Popis: | Silastic capsules 2 cm. long containing 10 mg. of progesterone were implanted in one uterine horn of mature rabbits while the other horn received empty capsules of equal size and served as control. Ten days to 6 weeks later the rabbits were inseminated and ovulation induced. Groups of animals were killed 2, 6, and 10 days later to ascertain fertilization, blastocysts development, and implantation, respectively. It was found that intrauterine progesterone did not interfere with fertilization but considerably affected egg development and completely inhibited implantation on the side of the progesterone implant. However, no systemic progesterone effects on the ova in the contralateral horn were observed. |
