Popis: | Testosterone increases the activity of β-glucuronidase up to 50-fold in mouse kidney by increasing the rate of synthesis of new enzyme molecules. Several progestins also influence the activity of this enzyme by mimicking, potentiating or inhibiting androgen action. These effects have been termed the androgenic, synandrogenic and antiandrogenic actions of progestins. The present study was performed to determine whether progestins, like androgens, exert their effects on β-glucuronidase activity by changing its rate of synthesis. To determine this, β-glucuronidase catalytic activity was compared to the rate of enzyme synthesis measured by immunoprecipitation assay. β-Glucuronidase activity and rate of synthesis were measured in female mice treated with varying amounts of progestins (0.1 - 10 mg/day) alone and in combination with *** |
