Popis: | For the last five years, field experiments have been conducted on different soil types, in which the response to nitrogen of different leafy vegetables was tested in terms of nitrate content and yield. Before each culture the total amount of mineral nitrogen in the soil profile (0–60 cm depth) was determined. The purpose was to establish the amount of nitrogen needed to produce vegetables with an acceptable nitrate concentration while keeping yield loss at a minimum. Relations were found between total supply of mineral nitrogen from soil and fertilizer, yield and nitrate concentration of the crop, which led to tentative fertilizer recommendations for spinach and lettuce, grown in the open. |
