Popis: | The rate of growth of (110) faces of the paraffin C36H74 from a solution in petroleum ether has been measured with dioctadecylamine as an impurity, and compared to the growth rate in pure solution. The lowering of the growth rate depends strongly on the concentration of impurity. By comparison to the pure solution, the presence of the impurity has a double effect. First, the activation energy of two dimensional nucleation is enhanced; secondly, the rates of advancement of steps, are also enhanced. At low supersaturation, the first effect is the most effective. |
