Popis: The Healthy Heart and Mind Study is a three-year cross-sectional, correlational study of African American and White adults, ages 60 and older, with a primary aim to examine subclinical cardiovascular disease risk factors, brain pathology, and cognitive function in the context of race-related health disparities. The secondary aim is to examine how cardiometabolic risk factors and health behaviors are related to brain and cognitive outcomes. We have evaluated 94 participants (33% male, 71% White, mean age=69.07y). At completion, the study will include 150 participants. The study protocol begins with a phone interview and in-person eligibility screening. Two data collection visits include neuropsychological testing and measurement of sleep quality, physical activity and perceived stress (visit 1) and a fasting blood draw, vascular testing, and structural MRI (visit 2). This presentation gives a detailed overview of the study, including study aims, methods, recruitment strategies, and sample characteristics.
