| Popis: | EFFORTS TO REESTABLISH the cerebral circulation through the carotid artery after complete occlusion of the internal carotid artery have, in our past experience, met with a notable lack of success. The exploration of carotid arteries has for some years been the practice in this and other institutions when an occlusion was demonstrated arteriographically. The usual experience has been to find the common carotid artery and the external carotid artery patent, with a large plaque present at the bifurcation of the vessels and a completely obliterative, well-organized thrombosis present in the internal carotid artery. The vessel itself in these cases has been pale, firm, and attenuated and on cross section showed no significant recanalization. More recent efforts have been directed toward the relief of stenosing lesions at the bifurcation of the common carotid artery in the presence of vascular insufficiency associated with intermittent and transient episodes of either monocular visual disturbances |
