Popis: | Calves passively immunized with rabbit anti-bovine pancreatic ribonuclease serum were examined for their antibody response to egg albumin, rabbit γ-globulin, and rabbit serum albumin. An enhanced immune response was observed toward rabbit γ-globulin, but not toward the other antigens. It appears that this enhanced response to rabbit γ-globulin was due to the formation of ribonuclease-anti-ribonuclease complexes in vivo, and was directed toward antigenic determinants on the rabbit anti-ribonuclease antibody. Concomitant with the antibody response was an increase in the concentration of serum ribonuclease as determined by radioimmunoassay. A corresponding increase in ribonuclease enzymatic activity, however, was not generally observed. The data suggest a possible interaction between ribonuclease, a ribonuclease inhibitor, and the apparatus for antibody synthesis. |
