Three new virus-coded low molecular weight RNA species which migrate slightly faster on two-dimensional polyacrylamide gels than virus-associated (VA) RNA were isolated from KB cells late after productive infection with adenovirus type 2. All three species are synthesized in quantities much smaller than VA RNA. The relative rates of labeling of the three species differ at different times after infection. The base composition of the three novel RNA molecules differs among themselves and is different from that of VA RNA. The structure of the minor RNA species with migration most different from that of VA RNA was studied in detail. Its T 1 ribonuclease oligonucleotide map resembles the map of VA RNA but is not identical. It has a different 3′ end from VA RNA and is missing several T 1 oligonucleotides present in our VA RNA. It contains some T 1 oligonucleotides not present in VA RNA. |
