The disease may start with asymmetrical weakness in the arms and legs, hyperreflexia, myolysis, cramps, twitching, fatigue, difficulty in speech and swallowing, emotional lability due to upper and lower motor neuron involvement. Sleep disorders may occur generally during the course of the disease in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
