Popis:	There is a dearth of published literature on audit of alcohol services with no readily available standards for comparison, making service evaluation very difficult. The purpose of this paper is both to describe the results and problems encountered in an evaluation of an alcohol detoxification service and to provide suggestions and guidelines on how such a service could be audited. It is concluded that it is useful to compare different parts of the service and to look at appropriateness of patients in different areas of the service. However, measures such as significant patient events and complaints may be too rare to be helpful.
