Popis: In brief: Skiing has become an increasingly popular sport for disabled persons over the past ten years. Special skiing programs are available throughout the United States for people of all ages with various disabilities. Disabled skiers encounter particular problems that are associated with the interaction between the environment and the effects of their specific disability. This paper discusses those problems, the basic requirements handicapped people must meet to successfully participate in these skiing programs, and the benefits of skiing for individuals with particular disabilities. These individuals include amputees, blind or deaf skiers, and skiers with neuromuscular disorders or spinal cord injuries.
