J. College, Ghatkopar, Mumbai-400 086, India Manuscript received 17 December 2007, accepted 16 January 2008 New chloro complex of nickel(ll) of the type [(µ-Cl)2Ni2{ŋ2-(pbox)}2] (1) has been synthesized by the interaction of nickel{ll) chloride with {2-(o-hydroxyphenyl)}-benzoxazole (pboxH) in equimolar ratio (in refluxing EtOH). Further, it was treated with sodium salts of Schiff bases (sb) [sb = smabH and sapH), isopropoxide and aluminiumtetraisopropoxide and aryloxo- and alkoxo-salts in the presence of THF/pyridine to produce new hydrocarbon soluble mixed ligand complexes of the types : [{smab)Ni{ŋ2-(pbox)}] (2), [{sap)Ni{ŋ2-(pbox)}] (3), [(µ-OPri)2Ni2{ŋ2-(pbox)}2](4), [{µ-OAr)2Ni2{ŋ2- {pbox)2]{5) and [{(µ-OPri)2Al{OPri)2}Ni{ŋ2-{pbox)}]{6). These new products have been characterized by spectroscopic [IR, electronic {UV-visible), FAB-mass] and magnetic studies. A tentative Td geometry around nickel(II) are proposed.
