Popis: | The rat chondrosarcoma chondrocyte has the dual capacity to metabolize glucose (mainly via glycolysis) and glutamine (via an oxidative pathway). Glutamine metabolism, unlike that of glucose, is unable to sustain intracellular ATP concentrations. Glutamine consumption by the chondrosarcoma chondrocyte, however, is significantly in excess of its utilization as an amide-group donor in hexosamine synthesis, implying a novel and major role in cell metabolism. |
