Popis: | After partial ligation of the arteriovenous pedicle of the rabbit spleen lysis of the segment of the spleen with interrupted circulation occurs, and compensatory hypertrophy on the side where circulation remains. A highly significant increase in volume is observed in the part of the spleen where the circulation remains open (44 of 46 animals). The increase in the splenic volume is greater than the amount of splenic pedicle ligated. Compensatory hypertrophy develops principally during the first 2–3 weeks. The difference between volume obtained in the first 2 or 3 weeks and later weeks is not significant from that of controls. Only slight differences in histology controls are observed in the hypertrophied spleen. |
