Popis: We have measured the magnetic-field dependence of the attenuation of a 32.3-MHz surface acoustic wave propagating in the [1\ifmmode\bar\else\textasciimacron\fi{}01] direction on the (101) surface of a copper crystal. Magnetoacoustic effects due to both closed and open orbits are observed, and evidence is presented to confirm that they are caused by surface-scattered conduction electrons. It is proposed that this method of measuring the trajectories of surface-scattered electrons can be useful for studying the structure of metal crystal surfaces.
