Popis: | Using a modified sulfation factor (SF) method involving the use of nonhypophysectomized animals as cartilage donors, a fall in serum SF was found after hypophysectomy in diabetic patients. At the same time immuno-reactive growth hormone (IRGH) disappeared from the serum of these patients. In the fasting serum of 52 newly diagnosed untreated diabetics, 22 patients with severe diabetic angiopathy and 10 non-diabetics, no correlation was observed between the serum SF and IRGH. This discrepancy may be due to the non-specificity of SF or to a time lag between the secretion of growth hormone and the production of the growth hormone dependent sulfation factor. |
