Popis: | • Study design: Retrospective electronic medical record review • Study period: January 2009 to December 2012 • Patient recruitment: • 378 patients were identified by reviewing the diagnosis (ICD-9) code for spinal epidural abscess, discitis and vertebral osteomyelitis from electronic medical record at a single tertiary medical center. • Inclusion criteria: Adult patient with diagnosis of a spontaneous bacterial SEA based on radiographs and/or intraoperative findings. Description of “phlegmon” on imaging study was considered as suggestion of evolving abscess and these patients were included. • Exclusion criteria: Post spinal surgery infections, Pott’s disease and isolated discitis/osteomyelitis • Total of 88 patients met inclusion criteria.
