Synthesis, characterization of thiosemicarabzone metal complexes and antioxidant activity in different in vitro model systems

Popis: The synthesis of bi metallic Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) , Zn(II) and U(VI) complexes with general st oichiometry ( H2L M(X2)(H2O)2) (where H 2L is the di-deprotanated ligand and X is chloride/ sulphate) were obta ined with the li- gand terephthaladehyde bis(thi osemicarbazone) (H 2L) and are discu ssed. The ligand and it s binuclear co mplexes were characterized b y m icro a nalysis (CHNS), 1 H-NMR, FT-IR, UV-vis, TG-DTA and conductance measurements. The thermal behaviour of these complexes showed that the hydrated complexes loose wat er molecules of hydration in the first ste p, followed i mmediately by decomposition of the anions and ligand molecules in the subsequent steps. The molar conductance measurements of the complexes in DMF correspond to t he non-electrolytic nature of the c omplexes. Furthermore, the an tioxidant activity of the ligand and its complexes w ere det ermined in vit ro by the hy droxyl radical sc avenging, DPPH, NO and reducin g power methods. The obtain ed IC50 value of the DPPH a ctivity for complex 2 (IC50 = 0.254 M) was shown to be the best.
