This study is part of an overarching project (Safe at School, https://osf.io/57z9a/). Project SAS is a large-scale longitudinal research project in the Netherlands aimed at enhancing victimized students’ wellbeing in the classroom. In the current study we investigated whether a more supportive and comfortable environment for victims could be established by means of a rearrangement of classroom seats. We collected data from grade 4, 5, and 6 students on two measurement occasions (T1 and T2) in the school year. An intervention was implemented directly after T1 and lasted until the day T2 took place 6-12 weeks later. The intervention concerned a rearrangement of classroom seats. In the experimental condition, victims were seated next to their best friend and far away from their bully. All other students were seated randomly. In the control condition, all students were seated randomly, but victims were never seated next to their bully or bullies. The current study reports on the effects of this classroom seating intervention on victims' classroom comfort, internalizing problems, academic engagement, and victimization. |
