Popis: | In the last ten years Italian youth mobility has increased as an effect of the economic crisis and the high unemployment level. The aim of this chapter is to investigate this phenomenon. The chapter is based on qualitative research carried out in Manchester on 30 Italian young people. Contrary to expectations, most respondents moved to England due to poor working conditions in Italy (precarious and badly paid jobs) rather than because of unemployment. The majority of those with a degree found an unskilled job, however the migration experience has allowed them to be independent from the family of origin. On the basis of the reasons of migration and plans for the future, the study provides a typology of young migrants and their life conditions abroad. |
