Popis: | Inflammation may play a role in stress and depression. Decreased n-3 fatty acids and an increased n-6 to n-3 fatty acid ratio have been reported in depressed patients. Clinical investigations have shown effective treatment of n-3 fatty acids for depression. In animal experiments, n-3 fatty acids attenuate increases in inflammation and glucocorticoid secretion, and normalize neurotransmission following stress exposure or cytokine administration. |
