(P.) intermutans was recently described by Vairo et al. (2015). Its terminalia are similar to those of P. (P.) smarti (see Remarks under that species). This is one of the most common species collected using animal carcasses in forested environments, even in impacted forests close to urban centers, and it is sporadically collected in urban areas of the Brazilian Amazon. Its association with forested environments has been reported also by others authors (d’Almeida 1984; Dias et al. 1984). However, specimens have also been collected in open and sunny environments in Brazil (Barros et al. 2008).
