Popis: The concepts of food irradiation and the research that led to the adoption of a General Standard for Irradiated Foods by Codex Alimentarius in 1983 are reviewed. The slow commercialization of food irradiation is described and the present status of commercial food irradiation is reviewed. Several issues that are presently limiting its expansion are discussed and some solutions suggested.
