Materials and methods: The research is of cross-sectional type; It was conducted with 1619 social workers. In the study, data was collected using the Geriatric Social Work Competency Scale, UCLA Geriatric Attitudes Scale and Google Forms. The Geriatric Social Work Competency Scale consists of four subscales (value, assessment, intervention and services) and includes 40 items. The score that can be obtained from the scale varies between 40-160. The UCLA Geriatric Attitudes Scale includes 14 items. The score that can be obtained from the scale is between 14-70. Both scales are scored with a 5-point Likert scale. The data was analysed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 26.0 program. Results: 53.8% of the participants were women; the median age is 32. As a result of the average score obtained from the Geriatric Social Work Competency Scale, it was determined that the geriatric competencies of social workers were not very high, there was a negative relationship between age and competency, a positive relationship between professional experience and value and evaluation, and a positive relationship between the number of elderly people lived with and competency. As a result of the UCLA Geriatric Attitudes Scale average score, it was determined that there was a negative relationship between the age of social workers and their attitudes towards the elderly, there was a positive relationship between professional experience and attitude, and in-service training about old age had a positive effect on attitudes. Social workers are below the average of 43.3% value, 45.2% evaluation, 46% intervention, 47.6% services subscales. Conclusion: Social workers need a training program to be developed for elderly health. Geriatric competence and attitude change according to age, experience in the field, graduated faculty, in-service training on old age, and living with the elderly. |
