Popis: This is an excellent practical guide to the design and conduct of household sample surveys in small geographic areas. The authors have limited their discussion primarily to a stratified cluster design for a one-time survey of the immunization status of the population. Nevertheless, the methods of socioeconomic stratification which they propose and the detailed work sheets they suggest for selecting the sample will prove useful for other survey applications. Chapter 3 provides an ample exposition of how to determine and effect the sample sizes necessary for intergroup comparisons. Good detail is provided in Chapters 6, 7, and 8 on the organization of field work, interviewer training, and forms necessary for the collection, control, and tabulation of survey data. This book can be used to good advantage in sampling courses in schools of public health to supplement more theoretical texts. The authors have achieved their goals in providing epidemiological survey designs which are simple, broadly applicable, and capable of rapid planning and execution. IRVING SIVIN
