This chapter presents an analysis of 11 countries compared in terms of their social determinants – inequality, smoking and drinking, education levels, and overall health expenditure levels. It also makes clear the use of the book’s method, Qualitative Comparative Analysis. It considers social determinants in terms of both health outcomes and health equity, finding that the highest performing countries (the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden) have low-income inequality, higher levels of pre-secondary education, and higher levels of health expenditure in common. |
