One of the prerequisites in unraveling the distribution of temperature across an electrode surface, is the mathematical representation of the heat source in an electrochemical cell, which is primarily contributed by the electrode. In general, ohmic heat loss in a cell can be represented as I2Ro, where I is the current passed and Ro denotes the overall resistance of cell including electrode resistance (Re) and electrolyte resistance (Rs). Determination of Ro gets complicated by the electrode resistance, which often is intricately linked to the configuration, composition, surface preparation and finally, preparatory steps in its fabrication. This paper essentially deals with determination of electrode heat source by an indirect estimation mathematically using fundamental principles of heat transfer. |
