The purchase of real estate frequently involves the use of legal documents and statutory requirements that are foreign and difficult to comprehend for average people. As a result, consumers typically opt to purchase this service from an estate agent, which due to availability and market dominance, neccesitates the use of estate agents who operate outside of the formal labour market and are therefore informal. For the purpose of gaining an understanding of the procedures and processes that are involved in informal real estate agency operations in Dar es Salaam, this study takes a multi-pronged approach. The results of the analysis showed a non-linear and flexible structure in the process of carrying out informal real estate agency operations. This structure provides informal real estate agents with a competitive edge. The study comes to a close by analysing the consequences for public policy that would result from enhancing the activities of informal real estate agencies. |
