Utilization of Primary Healthcare Services among Women of Child Bearing Age in Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State

Popis: | This paper presents the assessment of the utilization of primary health care services among women of child bearing age in Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State. Using a descriptive cross sectional design; a sample of 308 women of child bearing age was selected through multistage sampling technique. The instrument used for data collection was a self-structured questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings from the study revealed that majority of the participants had average knowledge on primary health care services 247(82.5%) with the mean score of 7.0±2.35. Also the majority of the participants utilized PHC at a high rate 191(63.9%) with the means score 20.5±6.8 and there is a significant relationship between the respondents knowledge and utilization of primary health care services (r = .285; p=0.000 < .05). This study concluded that the women of child bearing age have average knowledge on primary health care services and also the level of utilization of primary health care services is high among women of child bearing age. It was recommended among others that continuous awareness through health education should be done in other to utilize PHC services.
