Popis: | SEVERAL years ago I was surprised to see what appeared to be atypical lymphocytes in a Gram-stained smear of the tonsillar exudate of a young man who was severely ill with infectious mononucleosis. Examination of a Wright-stained smear of the exudate confirmed the presence of atypical lymphocytes. Since then I have examined routinely Wright-stained smears of the exudate from inflamed throats of persons suffering from infectious mononucleosis, and in every case in which pharyngeal exudate was present atypical lymphocytes were easily seen. Atypical lymphocytes have not been seen in the exudates from throats of patients with Vincent's angina, diphtheria or . . . |
