Procedures for the calibration of the pO2 and pCO2 electrodes used in blood-gas analysis are described. For the pO2 electrode, water is equilibrated with room air at various temperatures, providing a range of pO2 values by which electrode linearity and response can be verified without special gases. For the pCO2 electrode, liquids of known pCO2 are prepared by acidifying carbonate solutions of known molarity. These can be used to check electrode responses and the values of calibrating gases. |
