Popis: Individuals obtain information from observing their social environment in order to draw relevant conclusions. One of these extracted information is the psychological distance between observed entities. Psychological distance serves as cue, which facilitates the search for the most likely interpretation of an observed scene (Bless et al., 2010). We argue that perceived distance between an individual and an object determines whether the observed individual is seen as an expert. In our previous experiments, we demonstrated that short distances yielded higher expertise ratings than large distance. With this experiment, we aim to show that the distance-expertise link is bidirectional. It should be noted that the present experiment is a replication of a previous investigation. The results of this former study imply that one stimulus in particular left participants only with limited reasonable options to place the critical object. Thus, we decided to replace the respective stimulus.
