Popis: | This paper explores the factors that affect the decisions of policy makers at the national level for what concerns engaging in transnational joint research activities and mobilising dedicated financial resources. The authors test whether different levels of proximity are likely to influence the emergence of similar patterns across countries in terms of participating in transnational research programs. The research question is investigated by analysing JoREP 2.0, a database containing data on the organisational and financial characteristics of transnational joint research programs in Europe and the policy actors involved. Heterogeneity of socio-economic research objectives and closeness in domestic research and development funding and scientific performance are likely to influence the commitment of financial resources by European countries in joint research programs, such as ERA-NETs. |
